The Hornets are getting healthier as an important road trip looms.
Forward Peja Stojakovic returned after missing five games due to back spasms to play 37 minutes against the Pacers on Sunday night in Indianapolis. Reserve center Hilton Armstrong returned after a one-game absence due to a sprained right thumb. Both players will have a game at home against Washington to regain their timing before the team departs on a four-game West Coast road trip.
Stojakovic's return enabled Devin Brown to return to his customary role as a backup guard rather than being a starting forward. Armstrong's return as Tyson Chandler's primary backup meant Melvin Ely didn't play after getting more than 16 minutes in the previous game.
The Hornets won their second straight, defeating the Pacers, 105-103, to improve to 18-9.
HORNETS 105, PACERS 103: David West made a 17-foot jumper with 2.5 seconds remaining to give the Hornets the victory Sunday night in Indianapolis.
The Pacers did not have any timeouts and could only manage a desperation three-pointer by Jarrett Jack, which missed, after West's tie-breaking shot.
Chris Paul, who assisted on West's game-winner, had given the Hornets a 103-101 lead by scoring on a drive in the lane with 30.9 seconds remaining. Danny Granger's two free throws tied the score with 27.8 seconds left, setting the stage for West's shot.
Paul scored 11 points during the final 3:36 of the game.
"It was winning time," Paul said. "(Reserve guard) Antonio Daniels was talking to me the whole game, telling me to be more aggressive. One of our assistant coaches said to take over, be more assertive and aggressive."
