New Orleans Hornets Notes, Quotes 2008-10-30

--The Hornets set a franchise record for preseason victories by finishing 7-0, the only NBA team to go undefeated this preseason.

--Coach Byron Scott said he liked what he saw in the preseason from a second unit that had Mike James (6-foot-2) and Devin Brown (6-5) at guard, Rasual Butler (6-7) and James Posey (6-8) at forward, and either Hilton Armstrong (6-11) or Melvin Ely (6-10) at center.

"We'll be a little bit smaller, but quicker defensively," Scott said. "Obviously at the offensive end, we're going to get a chance to spread people out. I like that they can spread the floor and that they defend. I also like that you've got a few ball-handlers out there."

--Coach Byron Scott entered the season still waiting for Hilton Armstrong or Melvin Ely to establish himself as the clear-cut understudy to starting center Tyson Chandler.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Last year the goal was to make the playoffs. Now it's jumped to, let's win a championship. Why not make the goal the ultimate and see what happens?" -- Coach Byron Scott.
